DRIFT:  Malin Mattebo, Sofie Alm Nordsveen, Ann-Maj Risgaard, Sofie Karlsson (SE)
Strå
7th May - 10th May 2026

The exhibition Straw presents part of the textile collective Drift’s ongoing project centered on hair. During a shared residency period, braiding, weaving, patchwork, and embroidery have been used as methods to approach hair as both an artistic theme and material. Straw showcases a selection of individual and collaborative works and sketches that have since emerged. Hair is lifted out of its original context, processed, and transformed into objects that engage with both the aesthetic and the abject.
The project connects to the Nordic tradition of hair jewelry. With a free and exploratory approach to history, and offers multiple perspectives on material and craft in relation to value and sustainability.

DRIFT is a textile collective consisting of four textile artists with material-based practices. They work to highlight contemporary textile art and support one another in the early stages of their artistic careers. With a focus on the body, spatiality, and feminine histories, the collective works across both intimate and large scales to reveal hierarchies surrounding traditionally female-coded forms of making. Straw is the collective’s third exhibition together.
